1.       Aetna Foundation/NMF Healthcare Leadership Program : The leadership program is a scholarship that is jointly sponsored by the Aetna Foundation and National Medical fellowships , the program aims to provide scholarships to deserving candidates in order to help them complete their medical education. The program aims to counter the nationwide shortage of physician-leaders to ensure the health of communities who do not have easy access to physician doctors. The amount offered by the program is Five thousand US dollars and there are fourteen awards available in total. A total amount of seventy thousand US dollars is allocated for the program. The scholarship shall be to US Citizens only who are in the second or third year of their medical studies, and have been able to show that they are interested in community service and have leadership capabilities in addition to excellent academic scores, and should be from underrepresented minority communities.



2.      AETNA/NMF Primary Care Fellows: The Primary care fellows program is available to students belonging to any one of the following underrepresented minority groups: Latino, Native American, African American, or Asian American (Vietnamese or Cambodian only). The student must have shown that he is dedicated to community service and possesses excellent leadership capabilities. The program will provide the scholar with a ten thousand US dollar award and help him receive mentorship through a service-learning program. The goal of the primary care fellows program is to help in increasing the knowledge and understanding of future physicians in areas of health information tech along with policy and primary care access. In addition, the candidate will also need to submit two personal statements the first of which will discuss their reason for starting a medical career. They have to provide their personal as well as professional perspective. This is to understand the applicant’s commitment to improving health care.  The second personal statement must discuss their personal experiences, which have made them pursue their medical career to help the underserved and underrepresented medical communities.


Both the above-mentioned scholarships are highly coveted in the medical career and are a feather in the cap of any person who receives them, not only are they receiving financial help but they will also be a part of the respected NMF alumni.
